The Big XII and Baylor Sports

The Baylor Bears remain in the Big XII after months of turmoil in the conference. Nebrasaka and Coloroda have both chosen to flee the conference, leaving the conference with ten schools. The Bears are expected to remain strong in several sports over the next few years, despite playing tough schools in the Big XII such as Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State.

An Inside Peak at Baylor Sports:

The Baylor Men's Basketball team is set to make another run in the 2010-2011 season. They will look to star guard LaceDarius Dunn to put up big numbers this year. Quincy Acy, the 6' 7" Junior, will have a big impact down low and on the boards for the Bears. J'mison Morgan, the UCLA transfer, will replace big man Josh Lomers. The Bears landed two ESPN 100 players in the offseason, Perry Jones III and Stargell Love. Both players will gain plenty of playing time and will be instrumental in the Bears run this year.

The 2nd ranked Lady Bears Basketball team will look to 6' 8" phenom Brittney Griner to have another huge season. Griner lead the Bears in points, blocks and rebounds last season. Guard Melissa Jones will see plenty of playing time in her senior season. She is great at passing the ball as well as shooting from all angles of the court. The head coach Kim Mulkey is confident her team can make a deep run in the tournament this year with the talent on the team.

The Baylor Football squad had their first winning season since joining the Big XII conference. The Bears have earned themselves a bowl game after going 7-5 on the season. The biggest vicotry came against Texas, as the Bears went on to win 30-22. Quarterback Robert Griffin III held the team together and has been mentioned in several awards selctions, including the Heisman Trophy. This season will have a huge impact on the Bears future, as they are in great position to land top recruits and compete in the future.

The Baylor track and field team will likely build on past success over the next few years. The Bears have had several athletes turn professional. most recently is David Gettis who now plays in the NFL for the Carolina Panthers. Jeremy Wariner is an olympic athlete who won three gold medals in the most recent olympics. He ran the 400 meter dash for the Bears.

The Tennis team is also set to continue its dominance in the Big XII conference. The bears have world class facilities that have allowed them to attract top talent over the past several years. There are currently three former Baylor tennis players who have turned pro. The Bears will begin their season on January 14th at the Sherwood Cup.


The men's Baseball team looks to remain competitive in the Conference and the Nation. The Bears have had several star athletes over the years who are now in the MLB. The baseball team has recently signed six star athletes for the 2012 season. The Bears have been a powerhouse in recent years, but schools like TCU and Texas have passed them up recently. The Bears hope to get back on track to make it to the College World Series, which they have failed to do so since 2005.

Battle of the Women's Hoops

In a matchup of last season NCAA Tournament semifinals, Baylor and UConn meet again to see who will the number one team to start the season. Baylor enters the game at 3-0 while UConn is 1-0.  The games is set to be televised on ESPN2 as part of their annual college hoops marathon. It is currently the only women's game that is televised on ESPN for the marathon.

UConn has won 79 straight games to date, and they are regarded as one of the best teams ever in any sport. Their last lost came in April of 2008 to Stanford in the NCAA semifinals. UConn has won the NCAA Women's tournament the past two years.

"Whatever happens will happen," Geno Auriemma, coach of the Huskies, said. "If we play great, we have a chance to be really good this season. If we play lousy, then we have a long way to go."

Baylor looks to improve on their great run last year, starting with Sophomore Brittney Griner. The 6' 8" star will be relied upon heavily in the match up. Look for her to block, rebound, and score in great numbers.

UConn and Baylor come into the contest ranked No. 1 and 2.  The two teams played last season in the NCAA Tournament semifinals. UConn defeated the Lady Bears, 70-50, and went on to win its second straight NCAA title.

Baylor Basketball vs. LaSalle

On November 16th the Baylor Bears take on the LaSalle Thundercats. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN. It is a big game for the bears as they are ranked 17th in the nation. This match up will give us a lot of insight as to the future of this team.

One missing component is star guard LaceDarius Dunn. He will remain sidelined until November 22nd. The bears will be challenged without their star guard and will rely heavily on other players to step up.

The Bears are 0-3 all time against LaSalle. While they may have a losing record, the Bears are anything but losers. They will look to power-forward Quincy Acy to be a force down low. Acy had 10 dunks against Texas last year. He is already putting up phenomenal numbers this year.

Meanwhile, Scott Drew remains a target of the NCAA as they are being investigated for recruitment strategies. Allegations have been brought and are continually being questioned, but the Bears remain strong.

After the Men's team plays, the women will take on defending National Champion UConn at 7 p.m. This will be a rematch of last years national championship game.

Baylor Basketball Season Begins Tonight

The Baylor Bears begin their basketball season tonight against Midwestern State in an exhibition game at 7. The Bears are ranked 14th in the polls, and they look to capitalize on last years success where they reached the Elite 8 and lost to Duke.

They will be without their star player LaceDarius Dunn, as he continues to be investigated for aggravated assault. The case is likely to be dismissed as the victim is stating no damage was done. The Baylor community is hopeful that he will be back within the next few weeks.

However, the Bears will have to rely on some new talent as well as old to get the job done.

The Bears lost star players Ekpe Udoh, Josh Lomers, and Tweety Carter to either the NBA or graduation. However, the bears have gained much talent during the off-season. They gained a ESPN 100 player in Perry Jones. The 6' 10" Power Forward is expected to make great contributions for the bears. The bears will also rely heavily on Quincy Acy and A.J. Walton. These returning players will be key in getting the Bears back to the elite 8 and hopefully further.

Another addition they will look to is J'mison Morgan, the 6' 11" transfer from UCLA. He will be a major factor in replacing big man Josh Lomers and should see plenty of playing time as the season progresses.

This season should be an fun one, with loads of new talent as well as old. The Bears and the Baylor community remain positive that the team will be able to exceed expectations and deliver a winning season.

Facebook hate groups

I am about to begin shortly writing a compare and contrast project on two facebook hate groups. I am not sure what topic I am going to choose. Im either going to do a Houston Rockets hate group compared to the Los Angeles Lakers. My other options are researching different groups that related to MLB. I would prefer to choose topics related to sports, as it is probably the most interesting to write about for class. I think a lot of people will comment on these groups which will provide plenty of quotes for me to apply. Let me know what you think!
